GCSE Results 2023: An Outstanding Performance!
This morning our Senior 11 pupils celebrated their impressive GCSE results with parents and staff. Despite the wet weather, there was a joyful atmosphere in the Great Hall as pupils received their results and were rewarded for their hard work, motivation, and commitment. We congratulate all pupils on their excellent results and look forward to welcoming them back to our Sixth Form in September. Highlights from the day:

Headmaster Christopher Wolsey said:
‘I congratulate our GCSE candidates on their outstanding performances, which are all-the-more impressive given how widely they spread across our curriculum. From Science and Maths through to the Expressive Arts, our pupils have excelled.
I’m thrilled that our pupils’ efforts have been so handsomely rewarded, particularly since they’ve achieved all of this while also making a wonderful contribution to the wider life of the school. Today’s results make for a brilliant platform for future endeavour, and I feel sure that in the year ahead, they’ll make for a very special Lower Sixth Form – we look forward to continuing our work!’
Conor Ware achieved ten GCSEs at Grade 9 and one GCSE at Grade 8 and will be joining Ibstock’s Sixth Form in September. Mr Ware, Conor’s father, said:
‘Conor is our second son through Ibstock and we couldn’t be happier with the school. Both boys have done so well, and we are exceedingly proud of them. Conor’s results are brilliant and my eldest, Eoin, has just finished his first year at Oxford. We are really pleased with Ibstock and everything it has done for our boys.’
Polly Wright achieved six Grade 9 GCSEs, four Grade 8s and one Grade 7. In addition to her stellar academic results, Polly is also a talented musician (drums), sportswoman (1st Team Hockey goalkeeper) and played the lead in our Senior School production of We Will Rock You last year. Her sister Rosie received three As in her A-Level results last week. Polly had this to say about her results and her time at Ibstock:
‘I didn’t know how I was going to do as the exams feel so long ago but I am really happy with my results. All the teachers here offer so much help and support. I’m looking forward to Sixth Form at Ibstock and having more independence and learning new subjects.’
Rupert Hooper achieved an impressive nine GCSEs at Grade 9 and two at Grade 8. Mrs Hooper, Rupert’s mother, said:
‘All I can tell you is the joy that Rupert has in coming into school at Ibstock – he’s been here since age four. He’s done really well with his results and is staying for Sixth Form – there was no way he would consider going anywhere else. Our sons are very different and both have thrived here. My eldest got his A-Level results last week and is off to do Aerospace Engineering at Airbus in September – it’s his dream.’
Toby Cooper-Driver achieved seven Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and two Grade 7s. In addition to his excellent GCSE results, Toby is an exceptionally accomplished gymnast and has recently competed at the International Grazer Acro Cup in Austria and the English Championships in Darlington, winning Gold in both competitions. The last competition was particularly important as it was the first trial for selection for Team GB.
Honor Lynn achieved an outstanding ten GCSEs at Grade 9 and one GCSE at Grade 8. In addition to her excellent academic results, Honor also co-hosts the Slightly Scientific podcast with fellow classmate Oliver Visram, is a member of our Debating Society and a talented singer. Honor’s Mother said:
‘Mr Smith her Maths teacher is amazing. She’s made some brilliant friends while she’s been here who look out for each other. She has just grown in confidence while she’s been at Ibstock and she’s excited about her next two years here.’
Nicolas Lutgen achieved nine Grade 9s, one Grade 8, and one Grade 7. He joined Ibstock from a school in Singapore 18 months ago. His mother said of his time at the school:
‘Credit to Ibstock for helping Nicholas transition so well back to the UK from Singapore, and with his fantastic exam results’.
Congratulations to all our pupils and enjoy your well-deserved celebrations.
